Listen. If you have no idea what school will look like this year, you are not alone.
There are so many questions, and not many definitive answers. No one seems to know what the heck is going on.
Will we be back in the classroom? Teaching remotely? Hybrid? Crying in the corner?
No matter what happens, we need to tend to our students’ mental and physical health.
Now is the time to start using yoga in your classroom (virtual or in-person) to help students manage stress and anxiety and add some movement into an otherwise sedentary day. (For more on why you should use yoga in your classroom check out 4 Reasons to Try Yoga in the Classroom.) Not a yoga teacher? That’s okay! I’ve got your back. Just play the video, and let me lead your class through a quick, simple, safe yoga class.
You can use this sequence at the beginning of class to help your students calm down and prepare to learn, or you can use it as a mid-class break to get students up and moving. Your students won’t need a mat or any fancy equipment. They’ll just need enough space to stand up and stretch their arms out wide. (Six feet should be plenty…)
Give it a try, and be sure to let me know how it goes!
